In 1946 Malcolm Saville's third Lone Pine book was serialised for BBC's Children's Hour in six parts, adapted by Muriel Levy. The serial was repeated with a new, shorter production in 1949, but there is no evidence that a recording was made. Even the scripts had been thought lost forever - until now! Here they are, unearthed after sixty-plus years, published at last in handsome hardback with a specially commissioned wraparound dustjacket designed by Val Biro, who has also drawn a b/w frontispiece. In 1943 Malcolm Saville's just-published "Mystery at Witchend" was serialised for BBC's Children's Hour in four parts, adapted by Barbara Sleigh (who went on to write the popular "Carbonel" series). Although highly successful, Saville's first serial was never repeated. There is no evidence that a recording was made, but if so, it has long since disappeared. This is the third title in the author's Lone Pine series and is set in and near Romney Marsh. The Gay Dolphin is an inn in Rye. Scarce in the United States. Book is in Very Good+ Condition: head of spine slightly faded; pages are browning but clean and solid. Dust jacket is in Fair+ Condition: loss at ends of spine and adjacent part of upper front section, with partial loss of "G" in title; shadows left from old tape repairs; archival reattachment of front flap; back section is rubbed and lightly soiled; upper edge chipped.
