Garden City: Doubleday, Page and Company, 1912. Hardcover. Near Fine. First edition. 11 volumes [of 12] lacking one volume (*Roads of Destiny*). Tall octavos. Quarter parchment gilt and pale brown paper over boards. Moderate soiling on the spines, and some rubbing on the boards, a very good or better set. One of 125 copies, this is copy is noted in the first volume (*The Four Million*) in type as "Number Five Printed for Ethel De Valcourt Lynn". Also tipped into that volume is a page of manuscript in pencil on toned paper (as always) that begins "Let us bestow 200 words upon the psychology of the audience" from O' Henry's story, *The Unprofitable Servant* a story left unfinished at his death and later published in *Everybody's Magazine* in December, 1911.

Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Page and Company, 1912. The manuscript edition of the Works of O. Henry, limited to 125 examples. Octavo, 12 volumes, bound in original half vellum. In fine condition. The manuscript is bound into volume one. An exceptional set. William Sydney Porter, better known by his pen name O. Henry, was an American short story writer. Porter was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, and later moved to Texas in 1882. It was there that he met his wife, Athol Estes, with whom he had two children. In 1902, after the death of his wife, Porter moved to New York, where he soon remarried. It was while he was in New York that Porter's most intensive writing period occurred, with Porter writing 381 short stories. Porter's works include "The Gift of the Magi", "The Duplicity of Hargraves", and "The Ransom of Red Chief". His stories are known for their surprise endings and witty narration. Porter also wrote poetry and non-fiction.
