London: R. Goadby, n.d. (1751). Poor Pellow spent the years 1715-1738 as a slave under Sultan Moulay Ismail of Morocco. Only 11-years-old when captured, he was handpicked to attend the Sultan's son. After an extended period of torture, Pellow converted to Islam. Thus, his lengthy and detailed account is more of an "insider's" version than the typical Barbary captivity. Pellow finally made his escape by boarding an Irish trading ship in 1738. However, upon his return to Britain, he found it difficult to adjust to English life, having more or less been raised as a Muslim.
