Royal 8vo, 10 x 7.5 inches, publisher's green cloth in dust jacket, book near fine, moderate discoloration and mellowing to the green color of the endpapers, otherwise a lovely copy with dozens of mounted color plates by Rackham; jacket fair only with wear, soil, spotting, tanning, split along rear joint, loss and chipping to head of spine and surrounding areas. Looks better than it catalogs now that it's in a jacket protector. A lovely copy in all.

Text in Danish, this "de luxe" edition was printed in Denmark the same year as the English release. "Rackham's" Rip Van Winkel "is among the most thoroughly illustrated books of English. Since the text is brief, his fifty illustrations, which are grouped at the end, come at the rate of one to every two or three sentences" (Ray 328). In March 1905 the original watercolours were exhibited at Leicester Galleries, attracting the attention of J. M. Barrie, who then commissioned Rackham's next book, Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens (1906). Quarto.
