Red cloth spine with gilt lettering, beige paper-covered boards with black illustration, red cloth-covered slipcase with gilt decoration on front panel. No. 96 of an edition of 500 copies, signed by Wil Hudson and Nick Schwabe (designers/printers), Sam Black (illustrator) and Hans Strohhacker (binder). The author accepted a wager to travel in Canada and the United States, living solely off the proceeds of his amateur theatrical troupe. His travels in 1859-60, included Toronto, Ottawa, Belleville, Hamilton, Peterborough, Montreal, New York, Boston and Baltimore and he gives us a detailed, sometimes humorous, but seldom very complimentary view of the people, places and customs of the time. Morton Price (1824-1876) was an amateur actor who became lessee of Sadler's Wells Theatre on Phelp's retirement in 1862.
