No. 96 of an edition of 500 copies, signed by Wil Hudson and Nick Schwabe (designers/printers), Sam Black (illustrator) and Hans Strohhacker (binder). The author accepted a wager to travel in Canada and the United States, living solely off the proceeds of his amateur theatrical troupe. His travels in 1859-60, included Toronto, Ottawa, Belleville, Hamilton, Peterborough, Montreal, New York, Boston and Baltimore and he gives us a detailed, sometimes humorous, but seldom very complimentary view of the people, places and customs of the time. Lithograph portrait frontispiece and 3 tinted lithograph plates. Includes a reference to the 1859 England tour of USA and Canada, pages 105-107. Morton Price (1824-1876) was an amateur actor who became lessee of Sadler's Wells Theatre on Phelp's retirement in 1862. This book is an entertaining account of a trip made by the author, in consequence of a bet that he could not, as an actor, earn five hundred pounds a year.
