Originally published in 1922, this uses fiction to as an introduction to the race problem in America, and especially the effects of the northward migration in the early 20th century. It begins with an almost successful lynching and continues with J.W. becoming involved in the work of the Methodist Episcopal Church among American Negroes. Illustrated with photographs showing African-Americans at work and in educational settings, mostly in the South. A title in the Black Heritage Library Collection. 179 pp.
