Interiors somewhat toned but otherwise intact, with firm bindings and all hinges intact. iv,465 + iv,466-737,2-191 + iv,192-652 pp., continuously paginated (sort of) -- we have no explanation for this unusual pagination. Not an illustrated edition. Translated into English (no translator given). Respectably preserved, appears not to have been read. Scarce..

New York: A.L. Burt Company. Hardcover. Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Historical fiction: a serially published novel from 1844. English translation. These undated copies were published sometime during the years 1899-1914 judging from the publishers' address. Hardcovers with cloth boards half bound in leather with gilt titling and accents at the spine. Four raised bands. Frontis drawing to each volume. The condition is good but with flaws. The leather spine cover of Volume I has a sizable chip missing. Volume II has a much smaller loss at the head. The leather is generally worn, rubbed and cracked. Internally, Volume II is cracked at the gutter but is holding firm. Previous owner's name written to the first blank in each volume. Both are toned. Both remain square with strong bindings.

Two volumes in three quarter dark brown smooth leather over marbled boards, dual spine labels in black and gilt, slightly raised spine bands, gilt decorated compartments, top edges gilt, marbled endpapers, about 7.75 inches tall. Some modest edgewear, some roughness to top edge of first volume, front joint a little weakened at the top but cover well attached, sound text blocks, but front hinges internally reinforced some time ago with some flexible clear tape which has gotten a little sticky (making the front endpapers stick together at the hinge - but removal may do more harm than good), pages clean, personal library label at upper corner of front pastedowns, no other names or markings..
