Decorative green coth, elaborately decorated in gilt, orange and blue on the front cover and the spine. The top edge is gilt. The covers are heavily rubbed and stained with wear to the edges and corners. The head and tail of the faded spine are chipped and the cloth is splitting along the front joint. x & 204 deckle-edged pages, illustrated with a color frontispiece, 62 full- page color plates, plus textual illustrations and vignettes by Augustine Fitzgerald. The overlapping edges of the pages are darkened and slightly creased. There is some soiling throughout and the plate opposite page 140 is loose with some staining to the margin of the plate as well as to the next couple of pages. This is the original 1905 edition/printing by JM Dent (London) and EP Dutton (NY), very large light blue hardcover with very elaborate cover decoration in dark blue and yellow, gold title band on spine and front cover, 10"x8", gilded upper page edges; deckled lower and outer page edges, 62 full page color illustrations plus many b&w illustration in text, 204pp. CONDITION: Cover has very slight wear, very lightly soiled by use, back cover has white surface markings as if was laid on a too-warm surface for a short time. Binding square and tight; bookplate inside front cover. Endpapers and first few pages and last few pages moderately foxed, light foxing present throughout. No marks or writing. Endpapers mildly foxed/toned, interior showing scattered foxing, generally light, in a few places ranging toward moderate (including title page and frontis. guard) proximate to color plates, otherwise clean interior, firm binding. Former owner's illustrated book plate mounted on front pastedown. Solid VG to VG+, Near Fine were it not for the foxing, which is a bit distracting but entirely cosmetic, otherwise exceptional..
