Final 9 pages are 1 p. directions to binder, 8 pp. publisher's ads. The final authorized Syntax book, published by Ackermann, with the original author and illustrator. Tooley 413. Original boards and spine label. Label with chips in center, but most of letters survive. Housed in a quarter blue morocco slipcase, with five raised bands, and cloth chemise. This outer box is handsome, with some light soiling on the box's and chemise's blue cloth. Typical offsetting, otherwise generally clean. Frontis plate bound slightly unevenly. Repaired joints.

Combe's sequel and the final original installment of the Doctor Syntax series A handsome "tall" copy, illustrated by Thomas Rowlandson with 24 hand-colored aquatint plates. Full polished tan calf, a.e.g., the spine with morocco titles, and floral ornaments, triple fillets with stops to the perimeter of the boards, double fillets on the board edges, and dentelle turn-ins. The Rowlandson plates are pristine and the binding is attractive. (Abbey Travel 268).

All edges gilt The work features 24 hand-coloured aquatints after Thomas Rowlandson, errata slip re pagination bound in, Some very occasional marginal soiling or staining to plates and light offsetting but generally an excellent clean copy.

Syntax. The text by Combe was illustrated with twenty-four coloured aquatints by Rowlandson.
