General wear to cover, spine leather rubbed, but details intact. Some writing in endpapers, general light spotting and dampstains. "1775" written in light pencil below "M.DCC.LXXV" on title page. Text pages relatively clean for age, and intact.

With memoirs of the author; and observations on his genius and writings by J. Langhorne. Second in influence only to Thomas Gray, William Collins was an important poet of the middle decades of the 18th century. His lyrical odes mark a turn away from the Augustan poetry of Alexander Pope's generation and towards the Romantic era which would soon follow. In contemporary calf binding with gilt design to the spine. Externally, lightly rubbed with some slight marks to the rear board. Front board is held by the cords only. Internally, firmly bound, bright and generally clean aside from the odd spot. Good

Bound in a light brown full calf, with raised bands and a red morocco title label. Transference to pastedowns and endpapers, but the text is very good and clean.
