1930 Seventh Edition hardback as pictured. This is a very handsomely made book that has seen better days. Binding is firm. Brown paper boards, textured to resemble tree bark, with black and brown stamping are rubbed and show considerable wear at edges with cardboard exposed at corners. Spine is missing. No dust jacket. Paper covered boards show very little wear, with one small tear (5 mm) at the lower right front corner. Pages are clean, tight and unmarked, with many illustrations. Owner's name and a small notation inside the front cover, dated 1928. As special and rare as this book is, even more special is an inclusion that comes with it. Stored inside the front cover since 1928 is Yosemite Natural History Association Bulletin 2, A Distributional List of Yosemite Birds. This fifteen-page unstapled brochure was written by Enid Michael, a far more famous person than the writer of the book. Michael was the first female ranger/naturalist at Yosemite, arriving in 1920, and she wrote more about the history and natural history of Yosemite than anyone before or since. The pairing of this bulletin and book makes this a very special item.
