Two names to the titlepage and one repeated on the margin of the imprimatur leaf. Some small marginal bookworm tracks to lower margin at gutter never affecting any printed area a few pale stains to approx. sic leaves and the usual edge dusting for a book of this age.A few corners creased but paper in supple strong conditon and all pages well centered so no headlines or… Leer más

Early reprint of this treatise on how good christians are led astray, written by The Author of The Whole Duty of Man, which is now commonly attributed to Richard Allestree. Engraved title page with two portraits of Ezekial and King David done by Wenceslaus Hollar. Contemporary full calf binding. 8vo. 452pp. Rubbing to edges, wear to joints, Tear to top of spine. Colour mark to title page. Binding sound. A solid copy containing to oft missing engravings. Good.

Spine: gilt titles, six raised ribs; wear to head & foot and thin surface vertical cracking down spine. Small bumping to boards extremeties and fore-corners with small wear. Edges: soiling and wear. Eps: age soiling small old signature to head fep and penciled numbers to rep. Old splitting to front & rear hinge. Head of title page with two olde style signatures and dates 1710 and 1737. Contents is in considerably VG condition with just the odd old foxing spot or one old small insect trail. Binding is As New. 449p. First Edition. Hb. VG/None.

London: Robert Pawlett, 1675. Very Good. Written in 1667.Originally published in 1669. By the Author of Whole Duty of man- thus attributed to Richard Allestree, although this is not proven. Likely rebound in leather 449pp and list of publishers other publications. in very good condition- clearly rebound with rough cut leather strangely including at the front a page upside down from "wicked men's prosperity" and another one at the back but the right way up. 1975

Very Good binding. 8vo.; in crimson morocco with a decorative device in gilt to the center of each board, and dentelles borders to the perimeter of the boards, and with raised banrds and decorations in gilt to the spine; all edges gilt; the beginnings of separation to front joint; wear to the corners; name label to the pastedown.~~With the name label of Charles Whibley ~["Sum Caroli Whibley"] on the front pastedown. Very Good binding.

Small paper-label pasted on to upper part of spine, corners bumped. A nice and clean copy. (20), 449, (3) pp. + two engraved plates. Uncommon later edtion of Allestree’s devotional work originally published in 1667. Richard Allestree (1619 – 1681) was an English Royalist churchman and devotional writer. He was educated at Oxford and became a noted preacher and scholar eventually serving as Provost of Eton College and later as Regius Professor of Divinity at the University of Oxford. Allestree is perhaps best known for his work "The Whole Duty of Man" which was a popular devotional manual in the 17th and 18th centuries emphasizing moral and religious duties.

Variant vignette to title page depicting burning of St. Pauls (by W. Hollar and dated 1666). Lacking the two plates and front endpaper, chipping to outside margin of first leaf. Title page has stain to outside edge and old inked initials to verso. ESTC: R9180. Overall condition is Very Good. Size: 5 x 7.5 inches (12.5 x 19 cm). Hardback. Printed pages: 8vo.
