XXX11/382pp+32pp Blanchard & Lea's Medical Booklist for 1859. Edited by Edmund Lloyd Birkett, with 80 Illustrations on Wood, Preface, 14 Chapters, Appendix and Index. Chap. 13 deals with Thearaputic Action of Remedies, and Chap. 14 on "Blood Depuration by Kidneys as a Remedy". Signature of Richard A Kennedy M.D. on title page and another signature of FFEP. Spine slightly chipped at top/tail, and corners slightly worn & bumped. Some very minor rubbng to boards, and small address label affixed to fixed front endpaper, otherwise VG . Very Good. Hardback. Fifth Edition. 1859.

London: John Churchill, 1846. [Medicine] FINELY BOUND SECOND EDITION. Octavo (20 x 13cm), pp.xxiv; 356 [2]. With occasional small in-text diagrams and tables. Also with the large folding table to rear, somewhat misfolded. Contemporary tan half calf, with raised bands, gilt titles to black label on spine, and marbled paper over boards. All edges speckled red; apricot-coated endpapers. Stamp and deaccession marks of Middlesex Hospital Library to title page. A stamp also to p.129. Lightly toned throughout, with occasional marks and spots. A few repairs to misfolded table. Quite heavy wear to binding, with vestiges of an institutional mark to head of spine and bumping to corners. Very good. First published in 1844, when bird was just 29 years old, and one of the most important urological publications of the nineteenth century. Bird was also influential in the field of electrotherapy, and designed an early flexible stethoscope.

1844. London, John Churchill, 1844, 8°, (28), 323 pp., orig. Leinenband. First Edition! Golding Bird (1814-1854) was a British medical doctor and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He became a great authority on kidney diseases and published a comprehensive paper on urinary deposits in 1844. "He did a great deal of research in urology, including the chemistry of both urine and kidney stones, and soon became a recognised expert. This work occupied a large proportion of his effort, and his writings on urinary sediments and kidney stones were the most advanced at the time. His work followed on from, and was much influenced by, that of Alexander Marcet and William Prout. Marcet was also a physician at Guy's; Prout held no position at Guy's, but was connected with the hospital and well known there.
