The first edition of this work in pamphlet form in the publisher's original paper wraps. Walter "Wal" Hannington (1896–1966) was a founding member of the Communist Party of Great Britain and National Organiser of the National Unemployed Workers' Movement, which published this work, from its formation in 1921 to its end in 1939. This fascinating pamphlet explores 'distressed', 'depressed' or 'derelict' areas of the UK in which there was mass unemployment during the 1930s, such as West Cumberland, Durham, Northumberland, Glamorgan, Pembroke and Monmouthshire, Dumbarton, Lanarkshire, Stirling, Midlothian, and others.
