Henry Hurd Swinnerton (1875-1966) was a British zoologist and geologist, lecturer in natural sciences at University College, Nottingham. His interpretation of fossils as living organisms contributed to a better understanding of palaeoecology and evolution. He also authored <i>Fossils</i> (1960), a book in the well-known New Naturalist Series (NN 62). (ODNB).

Published by Edward Arnold & Co, London, 1947, 3rd edition. Blue cloth boards, gilt lettering to spine under plain cream dustwrapper. 8.75ins x 5.75ins, xii, 393pp. 368 figures within the text. Free endpapers browned. Previous owners name and address to front pastedown (but under the flap of the dw - so not visible). Dw has tears to either side of the spine and top and bottom and the spine is very grubby. VG / P.
