A stark, unsettling, beautifully written book about a young soldier returning to his wife and falling for her lustrous young sister. This is a novel of obsession, hunger, lust and consequences. The dustjacket has a clear cellophane protective cover. The dustjacket beneath is atmospheric, worn, creased and torn. It is secure in position and intention. The blue cover has wear especially to the spine. This is, however, sure and supple. Inside, the pages are relaxed, comfortable, clean, very clear and very certain. fk. Dustjacket. 202pp. Light bumping to spine ends, some grubbiness of the yellow cloth here and there, in a strong, bright pictorial dustjacket with some sunning to the spine panel and shallow chipping at the head and tail. Essentially a very good, solid copy in jacket. Internally clean. A gritty and rather brutal "man returns from the war and everything is upside down" novel in which a poor rural ex-soldier gets embroiled in local feuds, and falls for his wife's much younger sister. Reprinted numerous times in a series of steadily more risqué covers.

We have here a man, his wife, and his wife's younger sister living in a rural community before the wife's "departure to work in the city" leaves her husband and her eager-to-prove-she's-a-woman younger sister alone in the house. Now what, I ask you, exactly what could possibly go wrong? Yeah, that's what I thought, too. 139 pages + one-page advertisement for another News Stand Library title. Spine a bit cocked/rolled, moderate edgewear, some scraping to spine edges, light chipping to spine ends, impressions, handling creases, tanning, short tears to fore-edge of last end paper (blank). Internally still fairly tight, but if this isn't going straight into the collection, best to handle and read it with care. A very scarce edition..
