McGinley defends "light verse" and briefly describes where Eliot, Marianne Moore, Auden and Yeats appear on a scale of "simple", "difficult" and "obscure". Note is on the bottom and reverse of the inquiring student's letter and in McGinley's own envelope, laid in loosely at the front along with an envelope containing newspaper clippings about the poet. M.)" Association: Countess Eleanor Palffy was a writer, socialite, and Hungarian expatriate. Book with rubbing to board extremities, light toning to endpapers, and a small shallow stain to outer fore-edge, else in fine condition; dust jacket with a diagonal chip to upper front cover, moderate wear to extremities, a couple short closed tears, a faint moisture mark along back cover fold, else fine.

McGinley was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1960.

Dust jacket shows toning to spine and mild wear to extremities but is intact, not price clipped. Envelope tipped in to front free endpaper. Four laid-in letters. The first is from April 27, 1937, from Republican politician Stanley M. Isaacs to McGinley. Isaacs praises McGinley's light verse. The following year, Isaacs became Manhattan Borough President, a position he held until 1941. McGinley's reply from April 29 of 1937 thanks Isaacs and updates him on news of her light verse publications. Letter signed by McKinley. The third letter, from Isaacs to McGinley, is dated December 27, 1951. In it, Isaacs discusses suburbia and McGinley's work. The final letter is from February 11, 1952, from McGinley to Isaacs. Unlike the other three, this is a handwritten note on a name card (Mrs. Charles Hayden - McGinley had married Hayden by that time). She acknowledges the complexities around… Leer más
