Pencil numeral to front wrapper. In 1904, Rayleigh won the Nobel Prize in physics, and Ramsay won in the same year for chemistry, largely for this paper.

Both Rayleigh and Ramsay claimed priority for the discovery of argon; they eventually agreed to submit a jointly authored paper.
