Uncut, wear at extremities and to paper labels, although they are legible; two owner's names on front end papers; light occasional foxing; front hinge cracked on volume II. A servicable set in original boards.

Fair to Good overall: the pages are generally very good and well bound but the covers are worn, and volume 2 has the covers detached, with a third of the spine panel detached but present; volume 1 has the bottom 5cm of the spine panel missing. Gilt to covers is still bright to main boards, with some dulling to spines. Pages are mostly clean, some browning to ends and to backs of plate paper, and occasional spotting to margins. Original marbled papered boards light rubbing spine rebacked with title to spines. Plates are offset to facing text pages but the plates are fine and fresh. Content clean with large margins. An excellent copy. Measures at 16.5 x 12 inches each volume. 95 full page engravings on India paper. Though the front cover lists 98 engravings we believe it to be error and the book stands complete.RIBA catalog matches with 95 plates. With original poetry by Sir Walter Scott. Text page 183/84 of vol. 2 has a large corner torn away at bottom no affect to text else the book is excellent. A scarce copy. Walter Scotts work on the romanticised views of the historic buildings, ruins, and monuments in the English and Scottish borders.
