General shelf and handling wear includes fading, wear to bumped corners and edges, creasing to spine head and foot, and minor blemishes. Roughcut pageblock is tanned and foxed, this leading into pastedowns, endpapers and free papers. Further foxing and heavily tanning is present occasionally throughout but the content is generally clean. Pages are securely bound and beautifully illustrated throughout, both B/W and colour. CN. A few small, light marks to covers and a small splash mark to lower edge of front cover. Name plate to front pastedown. Tiny booksellers sticker to rear pastedown. Endpapers and prelims lightly browned. Small drink(?) stains to lower margins of first half of the pages (small stain to lower textblock which has seeped into the pages - they are very small marks, not affecting the text).

Sailing ship motif blocked in gilt and black. Top edge gilt. Illustrated by J.D. McCormick. Square and tight and generally clean throughout with little wear save some gentle bumping to spine ends. Light scattered foxing to pages and fore-edges but no toning. Spine and top edge gilt a bit dulled. Very attractive unclipped, though unpriced, dust-wrapper, has a couple of short closed edge-tears and mildly toned spine and edges. Still solid and complete with no chipping and scarce in any condition. A most handsome collectable copy of this enchanting children's story.
