Contains three studies on the main artistic trends of modern Greek ecclesiastical painting (hagiography, actually post-byzantine painting) in less than a century. The first refers to the work of the D. Georgantas in the church of St. John in Marcopoulon village, Attica, an academic painter who studied in Athens, Munich and Rome, and worked during the last decades of the 19th century. In the second study the author discusses a venerated image of the Life Giving Spring of the 19th century, located in the newest church of at Paeania, Attica, and exemplifies a folklore iconography of the time, brought alongside the "Nazarene" painting, by non-academic painters. The Church of Life Giving Spring at Paiania was decorated with wall-paintings in the 1940's by the great F. Kontoglous (1895-1965). The third paper presents the work of Kontoglous in the church of St. George at Kypsele, Athens.… Leer más
