Mixed editions; 6 vols in 5, sml. 8vo (188 x 135 mm); illustrated by Hugh Thomson except for Pride & Prejudice, which is by Charles Brock, age-toning or spotting to illustrated frontispiece tissue-guards, spotting to endpapers and some of the advertisement leaves, with only some spotting to the half-title and title-page of Northanger Abbey and the odd minor, peripheral spot to a few leaves in Emma, otherwise internally near-fine; publisher's highly decorated cloth, gilt lettering and all edges gilt, mild rubbing to extremities, spines evenly faded, otherwise very good indeed and in all, a most attractive set. Hugh Thomson (1860-1920) renowned illustrator, in pen and ink, of classic titles; he was born in Ireland where his skills as an illustrator were recognised while still a teenager. London: Macmillan and Company. 1906-1910.. Complete in five Volumes. Pride and Prejudice is illustrated with 40 line drawings by Charles E. Brock, each of the other volumes are illustrated with 40 line drawings by Hugh Thomson. Contemporary half green morocco by Riviere and Sons. Green cloth boards, double ruled in gilt to the corner pieces and spine edge. The spines, with five raised bands have gilt ruled compartments and titles stamped in gilt. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. A very good set, the bindings square and firm with some rubbing to the extremities, the spines lightly scuffed and uniformly faded. The contents, with toning to the text block edge are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Several of the pages, hand-cut to the fore-edge, have been a little roughly opened resulting in small nicks or tears (none of which affect any text or illustrations). Very Good with lean to binding, wear to corners and spine ends, chipping and rubbing tot title label, cloth lightly stained, small area of wear to cloth at top of rear spine joint.
