An abridged edition of Burnet's celebrated history of the Reformation, written in answer to Nicholas Sanders' 'De Origine et Progressu Schismatio Anglicani Libri Tres' which had attacked the English reformation as nothing more than a political move by a corrupt King. The book earned Burnet much praise.

GB: J. Read, 1737. 4 and 560 pages. (An abridgment of a larger work) Half leather with raised bands. Fairly tight text is heavily dust marked at edges and paper is perishing in some margins. Oxford: At the University Press. Six volumes - 2 parts each of volumes I, II, and III. Seems to be original covers - a sort of plastic sheathing over cloth, plastic scuffed and faded, bubbling, large pieces peeled out of three spines (interesting sneak peek of the spine cover paper, which is upside down from the book binding!). Pages rough cut, very good, light foxing - more heavy on the first few pages and on illustrations and frontises. Bindings tight, multiple black and white plates. NOT ex-library. . Good. Hardcover. 1829.

Engraved title, title, half title, xlvii, 592; title, half title, xxxv, 652pp; title, half title, xlviii, 543pp, Directions for placing the Plates; title, half title, 622pp. 22 Engraved plates. Full contemporary calf, blind lattice, foliar and multi bordered tray tooling to boards, foliar gilt tooling to edges, gilt to spine, leather labels. Marbled endpapers and edges. Text bright and crisp. A little foxing/toning to some plates. Wear and rubbing to extremities, a few nicks and scratches to the boards. A handsome, firmly bound set. Rare: One copy only recorded of this edition in JISC: held by the National Trust. Not in the British Library. Not listed in WorldCat.
