Harper & Brothers. Poor. 1870. Hardcover. Missing title page, publisher's page and probably several author pages at beginning of book; dedication page is first extant page. Binding weak but holding. Pages unmarked but somewhat tanned, and minor water damage across top edge. Ex-owner name in back. Minor foxing and some odd cuts. Cover is worn at edges, especially alonbg bottom, and a few minor stains and general scuffing. Still and all, the illustrations (other than frontispiece) appear to be complete and basically amazing, and the text complete. .

Binding tight, spine straight, corners square, hinges solid. Mild foxing to front and rear endpapers. Small amount of writing in pencil on FFEP. Pages toned but clean and unmarked. B&W illustrations throughout. Winchell was a lecturer, educator, and writer on geology. His views on race and evolution are now badly outdated. Sketches of Creation targeted a popular audience, and seeks to reconcile science and theistic views, as did much of Winchell's work. . First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good+. 8vo.
