Lavishly done many gatefolds, the last of which appear to be genealogies/family trees? of German nobility, perhaps the forebears of the signer? Seems to match the specifics for the first of the item, blue pebble finish hard cover, paper spine label, 437 pages + 2 pages ad at back, 7 1/2 x 5". Spine reads, "Memoir of Roger Williams, by Professor Knowles, Lincoln Edmands Co., 1834." Title page states Knowles is Professor at "Newton Theological Institution." Copyright page gives date of 1833 and Title page 1834, no additional printings are listed. While essentially sound the book has issues that should be noted. The boards are scuffy and have major tip abrasion (worn thru), paper label has a bit of edge chip. The book is moderately cocked (spine slanted) exterior binding seem sound. The text is moderately foxed throughout and the first endsheet, blank, has had half removed, not at spine. Binding is holding and legible, text has some mild wave and back gutter ripple. No date of publication is given and I do not understand European bindery traditions well enough to make a good guess. I suppose it was done between the wars given the style.
