The story, set in Orkney and in Italy during WW2, deals with a (fictional) Italian soldier held in a PoW camp in Orkney who helps build the famous "Italian Chapel", and his girl back home in Wartime Italy. Deals with the life and family history of Christian Watt, who was born in Fraserburgh in 1833, was sent to the Mental hospital at Cornhill in 1880 where she wrote these memoirs, and died in 1923. A popular book in it's day, was first published in May 1936, and this is the tenth printing from July the same year. The story, set mostly in Scotland but also in WW1 France and in India, between 1914 and the mid 1930s, deals with the last of a line of Scottish landowners and his faithful servant (and illegitimate half-brother). 448pp..
