Limited edition, copy 92 of 150 signed on limitation page by Smith and the publisher. "Coffee Room, George Room" plate additionally signed in pencil by Smith. Francis Hopkinson Smith was a United States author, artist and engineer, as well as the descendant of a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He built the foundation for the Statue of Liberty, the Race Rock Lighthouse (southwest of Fishers Island, New York. Plates crisp and bright, uneven toning to matting of half title, linen slightly split along joints of portfolio.

The first edition of 280 copies printed a year earlier were neither signed nor hand-printed. Laid-in, eight page booklet of "Short Notes taken from Mr. H.B. Wheatley's Descriptions" provided gratis -- fairly detailed descriptions of each plate. All plates mounted on heavy stock. Plates clean, wear at portfolio spine extremities, soiling to vellum.

An early caricature work by Cappiello before his acclaim as a poster artist. Cappiello started his career illustrating in journals: Le Rire, Le Cri de Paris, Le Sourire, L'Assiette au Beurre, La Baionnette, Femina, and others. In 1898, he moved to Paris, and his caricatures were published in Le Rire for the first time. He was the first poster artist to use bold figures popping out of black backgrounds. Bright, very fresh copy, most signatures unopened.

A complete set of five etchings: Canal Bridge, The Old Well at Toul, A Street Scene, The Fireside, The Fagot Gatherer, plus at inside back cover a bifold leaf, a description of each and an additional etching, "Here am I," a crane hoisting debris. Sizes of the five etchings in inches: Canal [7 1/8 x 10 1/4]. Old Well [10 1/4 x 7 5/8], Street [9 1/2 x 6 1/2], Street [9 1/2 x 6 1/2], Fireside [6 3/4 x 6], Gatherer [9 1/8 x 7 1/4]. Two of aforementioned printed is sepia, all on laid paper, distinct plate impressions on each. Edwill Fisher (1896-1960], an American artist from Indiana, thence to Minneapolis. He was a cartographer in the US Army during WWI in France. After the war he studied art and etching in France. Front cover with iridescent gold, green, orange and blue marbled designs. Covers lack spine.
