This volume, The First, in green cloth covered boards is tightly bound, shows only light shelf and edge/corner wear, is unmarked and presents a single defect - the right, front free endpaper half has been torn from the book. Following blank endpaper and all subsequent pages are wholly intact and unmarked. Easily repaired or replaced. .

Ex Library copy with only a trace of label adhesive inside front cover, and remnants of white paper spine label at bottom of spine. No other marks or pockets! Navy Blue cloth boards, spine faded to grey with gilt lettering. Shallow bumps to edges, and lightly bumped corners and edges. Pages evenly yellowed, darkened at top edge, and slight foxing to page edges and occasionally scattered throughout. A very nice copy, NOT A FACSIMILE and much nice than it may sound. .

New rear endpaper. Front endpaper is original with pasted down errata as published. Binding (as repaired with all acid free materials) is solid and tight - threads do show at front but hinge is solid. A well and thoroughly described copy of a very scarce title. Ink name of previous owner on front free endpaper. .

RARE - A Former Trinity College (Vermont) Library copy, rebound in green buckram with gilt titles on spine. Several foldout pages have split along the fold but are present. Typical library stamps and pocket remain. This is an association copy with presentation stamp and names on second free endpaper, addressed to Charles St. Piere from Herman W. Allen, a former Private in Company A of the 13th Vermont Regiment from 1862-63, and later a First Lieutenant in the Vermont Militia from 1864-68, then Inspector for Rifle Practice on staff of Governor Wodbury at the rank of Colonel from 1894-96. Allen then became a Vermont State Senator, serving from 1896-98 and was a delegate to the GOP Convention in 1904. This copy is clean and tightly bound (modern library glued rebinding) and is a candidate for a quality rebind in calf and cloth (which the seller, also a binder, can provide at an additional cost) .

Former library markings in white on spine, head and foot of spine cloth missing - No other indications of library association save peforated stamp to title page and notations on copyright page. The boards show edge and corner wear, but the whole is tightly bound and unmarked. .
