London: Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co, 1892. An unusually bright, attractive copy. Near Fine condition. Clean, square, tight, and unmarked. No owner's name or bookplate. With 50 illustrations by Hugh Thomson. Printed at the Chiswick Press, Charles Whittingham and Co. There are 3 pages of notes at the end of this copy. Line 6 of the poem on page (v) reads: "The long day lengthens," which according to Francis Edwin Murray is a peculiarity in the earliest issues of the first edition. In later issues, the line was replaced by: "Life's journey lengthens" although beginning in 1897 the original line was restored. [See pages 13-14, A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF AUSTIN DOBSON by Francis Edwin Murray]. The collation of this copy agrees with the Dobson bibliography by Alban Dobson (item XXIV), although he identifies only two bindings (ruby cloth and electric blue cloth).
