Braun & Hogenberg, 1598. Near fine, early color, latin edition (applicable text verso). Very decorative town plan of Toledo, Spain from this edition of the famous city atlas. Cherubim, palace, temple all present as separate images. These plans are well-known to collectors, and this particular item is increasingly uncommon. The full atlas was published in 6 volumes, in various editions, from 1572-1617. It was a collaborative work between many artists, engravers and cartographers (for a nice discussion of the history of this atlas, see Goss's THE MAPMAKERS ART, pp. 260-5). The map image measures 12.75x20 inches..

Charles Knight & Co., London, 1851. VG+ with original limited color. The date is approximate. Port Neuf (constructed under Louis XIV) and Port Marchand (constructed under Henri IV) are shown, with most of town's street names present. There is a very nice, full length, "Panoramic VIw of Toulon... From the Out works on the East" just below the main map image. Local fortifications are shown. A nice map, measuring 30x38cm (12x15 inches)..

National Geographic Society. wrapped collection of 51 of 57 folded color maps from 1958-71 (slight silverfishing several maps; otherwise vg)--6 of the total of 57 maps are lacking.

The London Geographical Institute, 32 Fleet Street (George Philip & Son), 1890. A very unsual working planisphere, with a 10 inch central circle, on stiff board, surrounded by a gilt-lettered time indicator with 4 arrowns (12 inches across and rotating around the stiff board). The board shows all 12 months. This is in remarkable conditiion, with very little chippling to the leather or board, and one metal eye piece (for suspension) on one of the arrows. The constellations are shown. The front board is a dark blue with all the stars, etc., while the larger rotating piece (with the arrows) has a rather detailed explanation of how this planisphere functions. The above date is approximate. This is rather decorative, in addition to remaining functional..

Carlton (Australia): Queensberry Hill Press, 1985. Virtually new facsimile production (#83 of 155) with introductory text and keys to this famous map. Covers full gilt-panelled tan leather, in thin (a bit soiled) slipcase. The introduction discusses Thomas Ham, "...Melbourne's pioneer cartographer and map publisher..." in some detail. The first (1847) through 10th (1864) editions of this map are all discussed. The facsimile here (21 linen backed panels with hand colored outlines), with a copy of the orginal advertisement, is of the 1847 issue. This is a very nice and relatively scarce production.. Limited/Numbered. Full-Leather. Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Berlin: Mittler, 1925. Near fine, large 8vo (10 inch), with the original red cloth, gilt embossed cover and spine present, binding quite tight with very good, clean covers. The text is in excellent condition,and all 79 maps (78 & 79 are on one sheet) are present with original color coding. The cardboard flaps covering the rear map-case are in remarkable shape. xxxix, 392, with title page and portrait. In early August of 1914, the Schlieffen's plan became operational and the German Army invaded Luxembourg and Belgium. It did not, however, work as planned, and the Germans were held up by the Belgian Army, were shocked by the Russian Army's advance into East Prussia, and were surprised by how quickly the British Expeditionary Force reached France and Belgium. This "Von Schlieffen Plan" had been developed from his military studies, with particularly heavy emphasis on Hannibal's victory at Cannae, emphasizing swift and annihilating force on two fronts. Chicago: Rand McNally & Co.. Generally good with full printed color. A small (2 inch by 1inch) section of southern Australia is missing. There is some browning. This is an ENORMOUS folding wall map, bound into a cloth 8vo binder (some rubbing, but overall sound) There are few pencil marks on the map, but none is a serious visual distraction (this item is too large for me to send a digital image). The map is linen backed, consisting of 28 separate panels each mounted individually. The precise date (early to mid 20th century) is not shown, but Thailand is Siam and Sri Lank is Ceylon on this map. There are large metal rings to hang the map. The entire image measures about 38x58 inches. This is an impressive world map. .

Amsterdam: Chez Freres Chatelain Libraries, 1708. VG+ engraving, b&w as issued. A large and striking pair of genealogical charts detailing the the offspring of Emporers Ferdinand (16th century) and Rudolphe (13th century). Quite decorative with many royal crests. The interrelations between the ruling houses of many European and Scandinavian countries are shown. This is from Tome II (vol. 2) of Chatelain's wonderful "Atlas Historique". An attractive plate with the genealogy of the ruling families of Europe, allied with France at the beginning of the 18th century. Quite decorative, with many family crests, including royal houses of Spain, Portugal, England, Denmark, Austria, Sweden and others. Paris: P. Didot, 1814. VG, set of three sheets pertaining to genealogical history of France. Heavy paper, double elephant folio sheet, original hand color. Le Sage was a pseudonym for Emmanuel, Comte de las Casas. These maps were intellectual forerunners of the well know Carey & Lea atlases, which were first issued in 1822. The price is for all 3 sheets, each measuring 19.5x25 inches (50x64cm). This map was from the 1814 edition of "ATLAS HISTORIQUE, Genealogique, Chronologique, et Geographique, Par A. LE SAGE"..

Stunning topographical map of French/German glacial regions, with original color; six separate plates on 1 sheet. The map measures 20x24 inches.. 2nd (Revised and Enlarged).

Amsterdam: Chez Freres Chatelain Libraries , 1708. VG engraving, detailing the interrelationships of the English (Richard II-Henri II) and French (Anne-James I) and more, with family trees showing the ties. The map image includes most of France, England and Ireland, Switzerland, and much of Germany, with an inset into regions ruled in the environs of the Mediterranean (east to Cyprus).
