London: SPCK [Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge] Rare children's title, no date given but Sunday School award certificate affixed to front pastedown is dated 1892 (first edition published 1891?); pictorial boards very stained and worn, hinges cracked with the loss of title page and some prelims (first extant page is 'Contents'), binding weak with some strain to stitching and loose pages, internally the text is soiled but complete and legible, some pages have been clipped to top or bottom edge, or torn, but without loss to text apart from the occasional page number.. Hardcover. Poor/No Jacket.

Signed first printing of the author's third novel, set on the Shropshire borders, minor wear to very good cloth cover, edges tanned, pages beginning to brown at margins, d/w bright and predominantly very good, with a little creasing along top edge, signed by Pauline Fisk to half-title. Historical novel set in Sicily, very difficult to find (other than ex-library), this is a very good copy (NOT ex-library), blue cloth with slight wear and rubbing, bump to top of spine and the adjacent board edges, slight foxing marks to endpapers and edges, internally very good, d/w has been in a protective covering, and is predominantly clean and bright, mild rubbing to edges, area of stain near top of wrapper spine, and a small tear to front flap at the top. Marvellous cover illustration by Victor Ambrus. Rosemary Sutcliff speaks highly of the book.. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good.
