A large map showing the First Corps' route from Middletown, Va. to the defenses of Washington, DC. Names of individual residents are listed along the march line. Much more detail than might be apparent from initial visual inspection of map. Map # 461 from RW Stephenson's "Civil War Maps". 58x89cm. (The ORIGINAL & ENTIRE 256pp. of Gen. Pope's report to the Secretary of War is included with this map, although it has been disbound: 37th Congress, 3d Session, House of Representatives, Ex. Doc. No. 81). First Edition.

There are locations and names of individual creeks, rivers (including portion of Potomac), communities, mountains (including Bull Run Mountain)and hills, railroads (finished and unfinished). This ma p was published in the Comte de Paris' "The Battle of Gettysburg: From the History of the Civil War in America". The book containing the map offered here was published as a separate volume, after the multivolume series, and included expanded militar y details with documentation included. The basic 3 chapters are as published with the larger earlier series. Vorzet's maps have been reproduced from the French text, and all information is printed in English. 23x32cm..

Numerous individual landowners are shown, along with moderate topographic detail (Rappahannock River ). This map is from Volume II of the Comte de Paris' multivolume work. Vorzet's original maps were done in French, but this item is from the first American edition, with the map information in English. This American edition was published in 4 volume s, as opposed to the 8 volumes of the French edition. The Comte was banished from France during the production of this work, and the final volume (vol. 4) of the American edition was delayed until 1888. The map listed here is 16.5x16cm..
