Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal, as a way to provide jobs for young, unemployed men during the Great Depression. The Panaca, Nevada "outfit" built the water tower at Cathedral Gorge State park among other projects in the area. The author lists Kessler as seaman and helmsman, Innes-Taylor as dog-man and chief in handling and attending to the health and well-being of the sled dogs. Hardings successful campaign for the Presidency of the U.S. and was subsequently appointed Postmaster General. Van Amburgh was the publisher of "The Silent Partner," a monthly magazine of inspiration and human interest, and author of several books on the same subjects, rather a "self-help guru" of the early part of the twentieth century, and an author whose quotations turn up surprisingly often today !
