Pulitzer prize winning author John Branch offers this biographical story of hockey star Derek Boogaard. Boogaard grew up as a lumbering kid in Saskatchewan playing pond hockey. He was so big that his skates routinely broke beneath his feet. During his teenaged junior hockey days, one brutal outburst of violence brought him to the attention of professional scouts and he came to be regarded as the toughest man inthe NHL during his days as an enforcer with the Minnesota Wild and New York Rangers. But his injuries and conconcussions mounted and his mental state deteriorated. Boogaard dies at age 28 from a overdose of painkillers and alcohol.

Women's soccer gold medalist and World Cup competitor Alex Morgan offers this memoir of her life thusfar. A graduate of U Cal Berkeley, Alex was, at age 22, the youngest member of the 2011 FIFA U.S. Women's World Cup team and in 2012 London Olympics scored the match-winning goal against Canada in the semi-finals. She finished 2012 with 28 goals and 21 assists, joining Mia Hamm as the only American woamn with a 20+-20+ calendar year. Alex went on to play for the champion U.S. Women's World Cup team in 2015 and 2019.

Autobiography of one of the handful of greatest goaltenders in the history of the NHL, Montreal native Martin Brodeur. He made his debut in 1992 with the doormat New Jersey Devils and over the following seasons, led them to three Stanley Cup championships. On the way, he set a netful of records and his mobility changed the nature of the goaltender position.

Hardcover. 262 pp. Illustrated with photos. Autobiography of boxing great George Foreman. In 1968, barely out of his teens, George won an Olympic gold medal in Mexico City. In his early twenties, he defeated Joe Frazier to win the haevyweight championship but not long after lost his crown to Muhammad Ali. By 1977, he had given up boxing, found religion, and was preaching on Texas street corners. . In order to help fund a beloved Houston youth center, he returned to the ring and shocked the boxing world by recapturing his crown in 1994.

Covers very good but apparently the scout took this little book with him in his canoe as there is waterstaining to the pages; ownership signature top edge of contents page.

Riggs was a champion player in the early 1940s but in 1973, at the age of 55, Riggs (a tireless, abrasive self-promoter) challenged the 30 year old female champion Margaret Court to a match and defeated her. He then challenged Billie Jean King to a "Battle of The Sexes" as it was called; this became a major event, was televised nationwide during prime time, and King defeated him in straight sets.

Rather scarce book on Boston Bruins' glamour-boy and enforcer Derek Sanderson. Never the most talented of players (on a team that boasted stars like Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, Ken Hodge, and Gerry Cheevers), Sanderson was undoubtedly the most colorful and parlayed his popularity in what was, at the time, the largest contract ever paid a hockey played when the joined the WHL at age 26. Highly respected author Gerald Eskenazi was a sports reporter for the New York Times. Fine in very good dust jacket.

Uncommon, not published in the U.S. Biography of one of the legendary superstars of pro wrestling, Andre Roussimoff, better known as Andre The Giant. Born in France, he moved to Paris in the mid-1960s at age 18 to pursue professional wrestling. His extrordinary size, for which he was most famous (he was 7'4" and weighed in excess of 500 pounds), was a result of a hormonal condition. After coming to North America, he was promoted by WWWF head Vince McMahon as a "special attraction". He and Hilk Hogan headlined the Wrestlemania III in 1987 and the floowing year Andre defeaetd Hogan to claim his only World Heavyweight Championship. He died in 1993 at age 46.
