Set in an unspecified part of Virginia, it does not quite "ring true" as a piece of southern writing. It seems rather to be what a northern author thought a southern author might write!A rather mawkish tale of a Bohemian woman of "actressy mien being thrown to the wolves in the shape of the women of the FFV (First Families of Virginia) and their interwoven connections with the Best Families of the South. Her husband a true FFV comes back to his home-town with this young bride and is shunned by most, if not all "society".
