[164]pp. Oblong folio album (17" X 11") containing 60 leaves of sized cotton. 164 pages of patents (each measuring 10" X 7"), comprising 60 individual patents, mounted side-by-side on album leaves. When a patent leaf has text on the verso it has been tipped on, otherwise, it is pasted to the larger cotton page. Of the 164 printed pages, 62 are full-page illustrations. The leather album is lightly chipped with some discreet professional restoration to edges. First patent a bit grubby. Edges of remaining patents with a few occasional marks and small closed tears to margins (one margin archivally reinforced), else a clean collection of patents. Very good. A large collection of patents detailing the technological development of whaling during the latter half of the 19th century. Original green silk bookmark. The title-page, portrait frontispiece and tailpiece vignettes all designed and etched by H.G. Webb; engraved initials by Webb, printed in black with headlines, chapter heads and shoulder notes in red. Limited to a printing of 350 copies, of which this is #26. Corners and the head and tail of the spine bumped; rubbing to edges, with an abrasion to the back board. Browning to the text block edges, as well as a few minor spots of foxing throughout the text. Overall, a bright and tight copy. A gorgeously bound, limited edition copy of Walton's The Complete Angler. The Complete Angler is not only a classic of angling literature, but also has the distinction of being among the most reprinted books in the English language.
