Williamstown, MA: Corner House, 1968. Reprint Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 1968 reprint edition of the original 1922 publication. 8vo, dark green boards, 319 pages, bibliography. Condition: VERY GOOD+ book / VERY GOOD jacket: book has an owner name on fep; jacket has light edgewear along top edge. An early (1922) attempt at trying to understand the role of women in the colonial period in America, women until then largely ignored. The author made extensive use of diaries, letters, and other contemporary sources available to create an absorbing portrayal of women in both the northern and southern colonies. There is of course much more known today, but an informative and eye-opening read nonetheless.
