Pages very clean, except for a few light blemishes from previous use. A well preserved copy of a scarce book.

Pp.40, black & white frontispiece of S.Bruno + 7 further black & white plates. Blue cloth with gilt title and armorial crest to front, boards have some waterstaining. Good.

The author argues that Masonic ritual is not compatible with membership of the Christian church and that "...they are but revivals of early Gnostic mystery-cults against which the primitive Church was in deadly enmity." London: Gale & Polden Ltd, 1903.. 1st edition. An abridged, revised, but more compendius formof Gould's "History of Freemasonry". Pp.xii/448/2(ads), 8 illustrations, endpapers tanned, occasional foxing, pencil notation to front free endpaper, cracking to inner hinges but holding. Maroon cloth, gilt title and masonic symbols to front and spine, spine worn to edges and top and tail, wear to corner tips. Scarce. Good.

Guiseley, Yorkshire: Privately printed, 1910 .. A very good original binding. 8.75" x 5.75" x 0.75". 32ff. (Each leaf with printing to recto only). Padded navy blue watered silk covered boards. Gilt crest to front board with the motto of the Fairfax family: "FARE FAC" (which translates as: We Teach By Doing; or, Say and Do). The book is now covered in adhesive plastic, with the addition of red silk strips and a library reference number to the base of the spine. Light toning to endpapers (with adhesive tape marks), plus library references and previous owners ink stamp: "L. W. Smith, 96 Farleigh Road, Warlingham, Surrey". Embossed coloured Royal Arch crest, with tissue guard as frontispiece, plus 3 other coloured plates of Royal Arch jewels. This is an excellent programme for the Consecration of the Fairfax Chapter No 3255 on Tues July 5th 1910 at the Masonic Hall, Guisely. Sudbury: Privately published, 2012.. A true Victorian Masonic Mystery from the market town of Sudbury, Suffolk to the tenements of New York. Pp.53, colour and black & white photos and illustrations throughout. Paperback. New. The Rector of the title was Reverend Charles Martyn, Rector of Holy Trinity at Long Melford. A Suffolk man, with the advantage of a rich mother and even richer wife, he became the most generous local benefactor of Victorian times. Responsible for rebuilding the tower at Holy Trinity, building St Catherine�s church in memory of his wife and establishing the school associated there with the church, his generosity extended to Sudbury as well. The 'Rogue' was one Henry Cronin Pratt. A prominent Freemason and manager of Pratt�s bank, he absconded after embezzling over �17,000. Rev. Martyn played a decisive part when the masons took �steps to refund to the Sudbury savings bank such monies that may have been obtained by fraud outsusbscribed to the various Masonic charities�. VG.
