Neat gift inscription to front free end paper. Condition Notes: Age-darkening and some soiling to page edges, else very good. A very little foxing to half title.

"I justify this book to myself by saying that it shows what will not be seen again, the Holy Land as it was when the War ended, before progress had laid hands on it. Reading books exultant over the prospect of Gennasereth artificially deepened by many feet and the Dead Sea yielding a hundred tons of nitrates daily, I feel those improvements poor compensation for the loss of the world's most astounding gulf of fire". Condition notes: Wear and fading to boards, with small nick to rear board. Internally clean and bright. Dust darkening to top edges of text block.

Mit geschichtlich-, topo- und orographisch-physikalisch- und ethnographisch-erläuterndem." Undated. Brown cloth-covered boards, gilt titles to spine and front board. Text in German, views with titles in French, German and English. 300 columns of text, two columns per page, 52 steel engravings. Most, but not all, engravings have engraver's and/or original artist's name (C Hüber, Geisser among others). Text block 301mm by 222mm, each engraving (not counting caption etc) 173 mm by 118 mm. Condition notes: Spine strip splitting away, boards 'nibbled' around the edges. Most tissue guards missing. Some foxing, including occasional spots to plates.

London: J.M. Dent andSons, 1913. Hardback. Very Good/No Jacket. 270 12mo. A nicely-produced little guide, illustrated with photographs and line drawings. Condition notes: The green cloth-covered boards show signs of wear, especially the rear board. There is foxing/spotting to the external page edges, but this has not affected the inside of the book. There is some discolouration to front and rear endpapers. Previous owner's name and a date (1913) to front pastedown.

Landscape format (266 mm by 224 mm), pictorial dustjacket, dark blue cloth-covered boards with gold motif, gilt titles to spine, decorative end papers, generously illustrated from photographs, 222 pages. Condition notes: A little wear to the dustjacket, paper showing slight age-tanning to margins, otherwise an excellent copy.

Illustrated with plans and diagrams, some fold-out, and photographs. These Twelve Best Trains in Europe include The Elizabethan (London-Edinburgh). A snapshot of the last great days of European steam trains. Large octavo/quarto borderline in size. Condition notes: Boards a little bumped, but a solid book that has lasted well- clean, sound and bright.

Folding map very good. Binding rather tight. Condition notes: Light age-tanning to pages, but a clean, sound copy in modern boards.

You might think, when you read the section on railways, that little has changed for the better on British railways since 1875- or that if they once did, they have come full circle back to the situation of the 1870s. Condition notes: Unfortunately this book has two significant areas of damage, so buy it to read and enjoy, until a better copy comes along.
