Kendal: Gazette Office, 1843. Single sided printed broadside, approximately 320mm x 435mm in size. Cropped tightly to text, once laid down and halved, now lifted and rejoined with Japanese tissue, slightly creased with some light ink staining and off-setting, dated October 1843 to foot in ink. Anti-Warburton broadside, pertaining to his time as an M.P. for Bridport, "at the general election of 1826 Warburton was returned to parliament for the borough of Bridport in Dorset as a radical. He made his first long speech on 30 November, on foreign goods, and was re-elected in 1830, 1831, 1833, 1835, 1837, and 1841, all of the elections after the Reform Bill of 1832 being severely contested. Even after the 1832 act, Bridport only had 500 voters; it was notoriously corrupt, as well as being dominated by the naval interest. Shirehouse: No Publisher, 1826. 6pp, original paper wrappers. Slightly creased, browned, especially to edges and final page, otherwise fairly clean. A report from a Committee set up to examine the Formation and Government of Friendly Societies or Institutions in Norfolk, relating to the Catton and Rockland Friendly Societies. The Committee was particularly exercised by the rules of the Societies which required meetings to be held in public houses, with "a certain sum to be expended on Liquor by every Member, whether he attends or not, and the Meetings not to separate till all the Liquor has been consumed - practices which cannot fail to be productive of the worst consequences to the community at large ... and other most injurious effects to their Members, and defeat the benevolent purposes for which they were originally formed". Wide ranging and eccentric from a theocratic viewpoint, including chapters on Malthus, the Stoics, taxation, the evils of the national debt and oligarchy. First Edition. Hardback. Good+. 8vo.

Weimar: London Und Paris Magazine Hand coloured engraved caricature, approximately 275mm x 225mm in size, n.d. c.1806. Trimmed quite closely but without loss to image, minor creasing from original folds, otherwise fairly bright and clean. Caricature by Gillray, originally published in May 1806 by H.[annah] Humphrey, this was reproduced by Carl Starcke for the 'London und Paris' magazine, which appeared eight times a year in octavo between 1798 and 1815, with each issue consisting of three parts, opening with articles from London, then Paris and a third, satirical, part comprising English and French political caricatures (See Deuling, 'Aesthetics and Politics in the Journal London und Paris (1798-1815)' in Oergel (Ed), '(Re-) Writing the Radical - Enlightenment, Revolution and Cultural Transfer in 1790s Germany, Britain and France', pages 102-118). Mentions Broadwood and Forman, who were first elected in Somersetshire in 1841, so the date and place to reverse are probably correct or very close. Printed in blue. Not in COPAC. First Edition. San Francisco: Happening Press, 1967. Single sided printed poster, approximately 480mm x 635mm in size. Lightly creased generally, crease to bottom third with small tear to right hand margin, very light foxing mainly to borders, small scuff to top right hand corner, but generally quite bright and clean. "The top half of the poster has a photographic image or movie still showing a large room full of costumed figures lying on the floor. The background of the bottom half of the poster is a pink and black topographical map. In the centre of the poster there is a large photographic image of a woman in lingerie she has the letters: "H A T E" tattooed on the fingers of her left hand. There is a white field that divides the poster across the centre horizontally and obscures the female figures pubic area. Baltimore, MD: Liberation House Single sided screen printed poster on thick paper, approximately 545mm x 705mm in size, n.d. c.1969 Small pin holes to corners, covered with tape to reverse, water staining to top quarter with associated crinkling and some colour run to head, especially visible to reverse but not too obtrusive to front. "Poster has an image of an African American woman in a dress and overcoat with a scarf on her head and a handbag on her arm. The woman is leaning with both hands on a rifle held in front of her. The left side of the poster has the text: "international / women's / day / march 8". The bottom edge has the text: "RYM, Box 5241 "E" Atlanta, Ga. 30307". The client for the poster was Revolutionary Youth Movement (RYM). Baltimore's Liberation House Press was created by civil rights activist Walter Hall Lively (1942-1976) and subsidized by the Cummins Engine Foundation. Berlin: S. Lowenherz, 1848. Single sided printed broadside, approximately 330mm x 450mm in size. Creased to edges and from old folds, lightly browned generally with slightly darker browning along central horizontal fold, a few spots of light foxing, small ink number '104' to top left hand corner. Hersch "published a series of revolutionary newsletters in a mixture of Yiddish and Berlin dialect for the benefit of those who stood on the barricades" (See Elon, The Pity of It All: A Portrait of Jews in Germany 1743-1993). The Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin has a copy of those catalogued under Satirisches Flugblatt (Satirical flyer). Ludolf Camphausen was a "leader of the Vormarz liberal opposition ... [and at the time of this publication] prime minister of Prussia. Appointed by the king in April 1848, his efforts to lead a moderately liberal ministry collapsed between the opposition of reactionary court circles and pressure of the leftists in the Prussian National Assembly… Leer más

Owen, 1794. xl, 121pp, [7]; [4], 68pp. Rebound in modern half-calf and marbled boards, raised bands, spine in six panels, original morocco label relaid in second panel, bands bordered by gilt double rules. Title label slightly chipped otherwise externally very good indeed. Internally the first work is lightly browned throughout, but fairly clean. The second work has a small water stain to fore-edge throughout, with a larger and heavier water stain to corners of the last two signatures. First work was largely by Burke, the third edition, with the 6pp list of books but lacking the 24pp catalogue, which according to Todd is missing in most copies, Todd 62c. The second work is by Camille Desmoulins, and is the second edition. Reprint. Half Calf and Boards. Good. 8vo.

Two volumes complete - Volume One - xl, 325pp, [1] and Volume Two - [4], 366pp. Later full straight grain morocco, raised bands, spines in six panels, author in gilt to second panel, volume number to third, and date to foot with single fillet frame, remaining panels framed with double fillet, covers with double fillet panel with fleurons to corners, with double fillet border, gilt roll to edges and inner edges, a.e.g., marbled endpapers. Spines very slightly faded, rubbed to spine ends and corners, light scuff to foot of upper cover of volume two. Internally some light off setting from engraved portraits, but generally quite bright and clean. Edinburgh: Alexander Dunbar Single sided printed broadside, approximately 175mm 410mm in size, n.d. but 1835. Lightly browned, slightly creased, one or two tiny nicks to edges, but generally fairly bright. The printer, Alexander Dunbar, doesn't appear in the SBTI, but is possibly the son of the Alexander Dunbar (fl. 1763), mentioned as a 'running stationer' (ie. street hawker of books and pamphlets] in the SBTI. The broadside is a satire on the Conservative candidates James Andrew Broun-Ramsay and John Learmonth, who were comfortably defeated in the Edinburgh election of 1835 by the Whigs, John Campbell and James Abercromby. Abercromby later became speaker of the House of Commons, and then a lord, and his seat was then won by Thomas Babington Macauley. NLS only in JISC. First Edition. Unbound. Good. Elephant Folio.
