Tooled leather in a darker shade of red; hubbed spine; all page edges gilt; marbled endpapers; silk ribbon page marker. A small indentation near the fore-edge of the first three or so leaves (see Photo 5 for our best attempt at a close-up), but near fine, nonetheless. Includes publisher's descriptive booklet. Booklet was a trifle crimped at edges during publisher's packaging process.

Publisher's gilt stamped red cloth, octavo, pp. 313 + [1] + ads. Illustrations. Previous owner bookplate on free front end paper. FAIR only. A couple of old newspaper clippings laid in at front with offsetting to end paper. Spine ends and lower edges worn. Board tips bumped and worn. The book is foxed heavily throughout. A good biography notwithstanding.

Publisher's blue cloth with a wood-block device in gilt, designed for the author by Gordon Craig, on the upper panel, octavo, pp. xv, 182, + "Four Comments." Full-page frontis portrait of the author and three other illustrations, as called for. Marion Morse MACKAYE died in France in 1939. Her widower, Percy, inscribed this book on the free front endpaper to a Massachusetts resident in 1943. Condition is FAIR-only. Book is cocked from being stored at a leaning angle on a book shelf. Cloth is soiled at spine ends. Spine lettering faded. Rear hinge beginning to show signs of tenderness. Internally clean and unmarked. There is no dust jacket.

Publisher's original lavender cloth-backed paper covered boards, small octavo, pp. 74. Tissue-guarded frontis of Howe from a drawing by John Elliott. December 1911 gift inscription from a previous owner on front endpaper. Board tips rubbed through. Several shelf scuff marks. About GOOD withal. See BAL, s.v. Julia Ward Howe (Volume 4, page 383).

16mo, publisher's blue-green cloth with spine lettering gilt and publisher's gilt decorative device within single-ruled gilt border on upper board. Top edge gilt. A veritable gilt cornucopia! Nicely done-up facsimile of the original 1837 Philadelphia edition, in black cloth with silver spine lettering, octavo, pp. 152. Light foxing in the pastedown gutters.

Publisher's 24mo, string-tied wrappers, with progressive pagination pp. [161-162], 163-188, [2], plus ads. Some text pages unopened at fore-edge. Final ad pages unopened at top-edge. GOOD condition with moderate shelf and handling wear and a pin-hole near upper tip of front wrapper that carries through first couple of leaves. See BISHOP, p. 101, Number 34.
