Well illustrated with a short history of the man, the legend and the making of the movie, this program was available at select Australian screenings. Ref. O'Brien, E268a.

Black cloth patterned paper over boards, title stamped in gilt onto spine, 12mo (7-3/4 inches tall), pp. 270. Volume with blush of toning to text, small offset ffep. Price-clipped DJ shows light wear and partial fade to spine, one short closed tear to head of spine at rear panel. First in line of the sixteen Bond novels executed by Gardner, later released in the US as License Renewed. Wrap-around DJ design by Mon Mohan, from a watercolor by the famous Richard Chopping.

Red cloth over boards, title and decorations stamped in black onto upper board and spine, decorative endpapers, 12mo (6-7/8 inches tall), pp. [i-ii], iv, 244. No date stated. Photo illustrated DJ with Katharine Hepburn's name misspelled as "Katherine" - susposedly one of her pet peeves. Volume with a few faint spots to top board, softened spine ends and slight toning to text block edges. DJ with heavily sunned spine, chipped spine ends, light soil, stains and edge wear with small chips at flap corners and a light crease to front flap. With the RKO film starring Hepburn being released in 1934, one can only assume that the publication date of this volume - with the front panel movie still of Hepburn as Babbie the gypsy - would probably have been in the same year as the film. Volume with heel of spine softened and two tiny spots to rear board, else fine. DJ with light soil and edge wear, one short closed tear at center of spine, scattered foxing to flap edges and verso, one 1/4" abrasion near spine heel. Filmed, then named and released as the film noir "A Woman's Secret" by RKO's new studio boss Howard Huges in 1949, MORTGAGE ON LIFE was originally serialized in Collier's under the title of "The Long Denial". The first printing of the first edition, having "1927" on both the title and copyright pages with no additional printings indicated and the Scribners seal on the copyright page. Volume with spine ends softened, a single pin hole to ffep and light offset to endpapers. Unclipped DJ with some fading, light soil and stains, closed tears (1 - 3 inches long at flap corners) chipping to edges and old price sticker at foot of front flap. An early work on the use of the motion-picture camera, still complete and in it's original dust jacket. Explains concepts such as cross-disolve, ghost visions and shooting from a moving automobile while standing on a platform purpose-built onto the front end.

Two small closed tears at the top edge, some toning and finger soil in border, else about fine. Ships rolled. Color illustrated poster for the 1937 British film, "A Night of Terror" ("Love from a Stranger" in the UK) based on Agatha Christie's short story "Philomel Cottage", starring Basil Rathbone and Ann Harding. A great and nascent "film noir" image.

Mustard colored boards with quarter red cloth spine, authors name blind-stamped onto upper board, title stamped in gilt onto spine, all edges trimmed, top edge stained red, colored endpapers. Price-intact DJ with 2 very tiny 1/8" closed tears to spine ends, 8vo, pp. 467. A very nice, collectible copy.

Small stains, bumps and light wear with some fade to red titles and minor tilt at head of spine from "Perfect" style binding glue, one 1 cm closed tear at foot of upper cover; head of title page verso and facing page with offset from a once present rusty paper clip.

Blind stamped cloth w. title stamped in gilt stamped onto spine, 12mo (6-7/8 inches tall), pp. 289. Volume is toned. DJ is price clipped w. tape repairs to edges, edge wear to spine folds, some small chips and two long pencil strokes to back panel. "A Paramount Picture starring Ronal Coleman..." from the back panel.

Beige cloth over boards, title stamped in gilt onto spine, color illustrated paste-down onto upper board, large 8vo (9-5/16 inches tall), pp. 131, ads, all edges trimmed and stained blue, colour illustrated end papers, Volume about fine with spine ends softened and lightest tap to one corner. Slipcase showing some wear with small cracks, bumps to corners and a small abrasion to paste-down. With the colour illustrated paste-down onto the top of the publishers tan slipcase, as issued and the water-color illustrations by Wesley Dennis. This copy is the Rogers-Kellogg-Stillson, Inc. variant printing of the first illustrated edition. Filmed in 1949 using the same title and the screenplay written by Steinbeck. Ref. Scarce jacketed copies of both the first and the second [stated] Australasian editions of Lawrence's 'Revolt in the Desert'. O'Brien [Oak Knoll Press, 2000] states "In 1927 Doran merged with Doubleday and one impression of this book appeared under the new imprint. At least two copies of this latter impression exist which have dust wrapper with George J. Hicks imprint on spine." I have been unable to locate either of those two jacketed copies within any institutional holdings. 1) This copy of the first Australasian edition of 'Revolt' is from that single impression made by Doubleday, Doran and Company, Inc., with the sheets bulking to 3.7 cm and the Doubleday Doran imprint on the spine, as required. Volume with spine ends softened, slight tilt, trace of shelf wear to bottom edge and a pin head sized hole to rear gutter. DJ is rubbed with edge wear and a few light scratches to rear panel. First state dust jacket with no mention of audio book on rear flap, back panel lists only four "advance praise" reviews. A true story told by a great storyteller, later made into an inspirational movie.

Inscribed by the author on the ffep "To Francis Vater / with best wishes --- / Harold Robbins.". Apart from the minor condition issues noted, a bright, clean copy. DJ artwork by John O'Hara Cosgrave II. The Advance Reading Copy, preceeding the first edition, and basis for the 1958 Elvis Presley film, King Creole.

Volume with heel of spine softened, faint offset to feps from jacket flaps, text block edges a little toned with tiny amount of scattered foxing, vintage bookseller's tag to front pastedown.
