Wilkes-Barre, PA, June 17, 1849. General wear. Letter folds. . A single-fold letter sheet detailing their departure from Philadelphia on the Steamer Trenton, before switching to a stage coach and traveling along the Delaware River. They continued traveling north at at this point, using various stage coaches over several days, and passed through Tacony, Easton, Bethlehem, Allentown, Stroudsburg, Harrison, and Pittston, until reaching the town of Wilkes-Barre. The letter ends with Jeremiah's future plans for travel, where he and his brother would next head south and see White Haven, PA, and Maunch Chunk Lake before heading back to Philadelphia. [1871]. General wear. . The German Peace Festival was celebrated all across the US in most major cities (including but not limited to New York, Baltimore, Washington DC and even Honolulu! The festival was to commemorated the end of the Franco-Prussian War. The festival in the cities consisted of large parades with floats, soldiers in uniform, and German singers. The engraving itself takes up nearly the entire front page of the single fold unused lettersheet. The main portion of the engraving shows a parade serpentining the sheet, with a variety of parade floats, squadrons of men on horseback or marching in uniform, German and American flags, and marching bands. At the top of the page are three close ups of sections of the parade. The first features several men in uniform on horses pulling a float with the Goddess of Victory, Nike, on top. Cincinnati, OH: E. G. Wright & Co., 1872 (patent). An 11 3/8" x 6 1/4" broadside promotion for the Lightning Calculator. It describes the functionality as so simple a child could understand it. It provides invaluable secrets of bookkeeping and arithmetic for every merchant among other things. Concludes with testimonials from the New York Evening Post, Scientific American, Louisville Daily Journal, New York Ledger and the New York Times. Priced at 50 cents or five (5) for $2.00. Decorative devices on border. Reverse is blank.

Portland: Tucker Printing Company , 1905. The booklet is intended to give an introduction to the Maine Sanatorium in the Greenwood Mountains. 32 pages, paper wrappers with a stapled binding. The Sanatorium was established for the treatment and cure of people with pulmonary diseases, specifically tuberculosis. There is a brief history of the Sanatorium, as well as a description of the premises and the amenities. There are also images from photographs throughout of areas like the dining room, the living spaces, and the sleeping place. Information regarding the prices and treatment plans are included as well. 7 3/4" x 5 1/2"

Paris, France: MP Marcel Picardo, 12-Jun-02. A single fold menu for Hotel de L'Empire located in Paris, France. The menu is most likely for their hotel restaurant and is dated June 12, 1902. That night dinners had a choice been Turbot (fish) in a cream sauce or chicken. The hotel was located at No. 7 Rue Daunou and is no longer in existence (though there is a hotel by the same name currently in Paris). The menu also has an advertisement for Redfern, a store in Paris that sold Furs, Robes, Dresses, Manteaux (coats), Lingerie and Trousseaux. Refern was a British tailoring firm founded in 1855 by John Redfern that had several stores across Europe. Its Paris extension was operated as a couture establishment which developed into a leading European Couture house, while its other branches were mostly tailors and/or importers. Starting in the early Pioneer Period, the early 1890s, the Livermore and Knight firm created some of the most innovative and creative advertising postcards ever printed. Between 1900 and 1910 they ventured into more novelty card lines.

Germany, 1870. Minor edge wear and toning due to age. . A 15 1/2" x 12" hand-colored lithographic German board game with anthropomorphic characters. Originally illustrated by Jakob Schmitt some time between 1820-1830, this is a reprint on thick board from around 1870. There are are forty-one (41) numbered squares, half of have characters in them. Square #41 is the large drawing in the center that depicts anthropomorphic characters at a banquet. There are instructions at the bottom, in German.

Los Angeles, CA: Coast Industries, 1952. The date is inferred by magazine ads found, which date to 1952, in 1954, the company's address changed.. Materials featuring a 'Bathing Beauty' novelty letter opener and the two pieces of advertising materials that go along with it. In the 1950s a company by the name of Coast Industries came up with a product called 'flok-kraft fluorescent flock', which was a phosphorescent pigment mixed with an adhesive and used to decorate plastic objects. This pigment glowed in the dark and came in three colors, bright blue, brilliant green, and bright yellow. The company coated this product onto a variety of plastic molds, such as the 'Bathing Beauty' Letter Opener, that were then sold in bulk to companies to use a promotional materials. The letter opener itself is made from a clear plastic that has been shaped into the silhouette of a female body. Frederick, MD: Examiner, [1900]. General wear. Damage to corners. . Each advertisement printed on heavy card stock has a chromolithograph illustration on the front and the menu of syrup flavors on the reverse. Both illustrate a woman wearing a Greek style dresses, and one is holding a branch of grapes while the other is holding flowers in one hand with a bunch of wheat and a scythe in the other. The advertisement on the back sides are the same for both- a list of the variety of health and soda drinks provided by A. C. McCardell. Some examples are: Pear Phosphates for impaired vitality, chocolate for nourishing and refreshment, Moxie for weakened energy, and Sarsaparilla for the blood. Also sold by A. C. McCardell were a whole line of Fruit Syrups and Ice Cream Soda, as well as Mineral Waters from Vichy (for Gentlemen), Deep Rock (for kidney trouble), and Bedford (for "sick headache"). Springfield, MA: W. J. Holland, 1865. The single sheet circular announces a reduction in price a grouping of albums sold by the company. It also provides a promotional pitch and testimonials. It concludes with blank price list information. Measures 11" x 8 1/4".

Milwaukee, WI: Milwaukee Electric Railway & Light Co., Cooperating with the Milwaukee Safety Commission, [1923]. General wear. . A 32pp (unnumbered) comprehensive booklet on safety for children, and what parents should look for both inside and outside of the home to protect their children. It begins by telling the reader that there were 65 accidental deaths of children in Milwaukee in the past year, and continues on to state that even if your child survives an accident, (s)he may "be brought home on a stretcher - perhaps crippled for life - perhaps nevermore to speak or smile." Next it takes you through a variety of scenarios on how a child may be injured. Within the house, where 40% of accidental deaths occur, there is falling, scalding, choking, burning (either via cooking or any of the various contraptions used to heat one's house) or poisoning through household cleaners and/or medicine. Recommended for Policeman, officer, conductor, telegraph messenger, soldier, fireman and brakeman --every man who needs a uniform. Also includes a 1 1/4" fabric swatch. Illinois: Research Foundation of Armour Institute of Technology, [1939]. General wear due to age. One fold detached with tape repair. Some separation at other folds. . An advertising brochure which tells "The Story of the Snow Cruiser", which was a vehicle designed by Dr. Thomas C. Poulter (1897-1978) who was second in command of the Second Byrd Antarctic Expedition. The vehicle was designed as the "perfect exploration unit for use at the South Pole" that would be "equipped to span large crevasses in the ice and to cruise thousands of miles from its base or source of supplies; it would accommodate four or five men and provide them with living quarters and complete facilities for the pursuance of their scientific investigations ... [and] a radio station with which to maintain contact with stationary bases and the outside world." 1880s. A group of 12 metamorphic advertising trade cards each depicting an unpleasant situation, when the card is opened flat the scene changes to a happily ever after situation,all as a result of using tobacco. Provided an effective means of advertising the technique was used by Wilson & McCallay's, Jackson's Best, Duke of Durham, Railroad Mills Snuff, Piper Heidsieck, Allen's Jewel, Bagley's, Dime Durham and Pogue's Sitting Bull. The use of tobacco was behind increased wealth, well-being, taming 'savage' native Americans, curing stomach disorders and heart burn and improving home life. Two of the cards are a slightly different format; one a small child so eager to get to the tobacco she falls off a piano stool and with sliced pages showing influencers like George Washington, Bismarck and Ben Butler all promoting the product.
