Ink owners' names to half title and verso of title page to both vols. Red ink stamp has been obliterated by ink to title page of vol 2 - it appears occasionally in text. Some staining, mainly at start of vol 2. Ink initials at end of both vols. Original full leather binding, now worn and stained, particularly to vol 1 which has lost all of one lettering piece and part of the other, also chewed a little at foot of front board. Joints cracking and small hole to front cover of vol 2. A few insect holes. Signs where ties were originally present but all of these are long gone. Single worm hole to outer margin of first 50 pages of vol 1. Although most definitely a pair, the patterning on the leather of the two volumes is different. Page edges red. Vol 1 - [iv], lxx, 592 pages + frontispiece and 3 other plates. Vol 2 - [iv], 554, [86] pages + 14 plates. Vol 3 - [xii], xiv, [iv], 494 pages + 1 plate, other illustrations in the text. Vol 4 - [iv], 563, [1] pages + 5 plates. Many of the plates are fold outs. All in worn leather bindings, joints split on vol 2. Spines very worn on all volumes. All with the bookplate of The Honble George Baillie Esqr on of the Lords of the Treasury to the front pastedowns. The bookplate is dated 1724. Vol 3 - [ii], [2 blank pages], 993, [11] pages. Vols 1 and 3 are 1619. vol 2 was published in 1621 - typis Egenolphi Emmelii sumptibus haeredum Iacobi Fischeri. Worming to vol 3, mainly pinhole size to the lower margin. Larger holes to the lower margins from pages 351-370 and 735-754 - this does not affect the text. Pages browned and spotted throughout. Bound in matching full vellum - ink titled to the spine. The vellum is soiled and darkened. Small paper labels to the foot of the spines of vols 1 and 2, mainly removed from vol 3. Each volume is ex library with the bookplate of Spring Hill College Library to the front pastedown together with the ink stamp of Mansfield College Library Oxford and another ink stamp - Sold from the library. No other signs of library ownership..
