London. the leather is Very Slightly rubbed, gold motif on each corner is in ver good condition; 5 raised bands on spine with gilt lineations; skiver with title on spine is dull. 2 bookplates and a dealer's sticker on front paste-down. There is a moderate amount of foxing on the eps and the verso to the first map in the series. This copy has no title page, which appears to be standard - I imagine because it was included on Vol ! only. So no definite printing date can be given. The last date in the text is 1853. Mendelssohn (S A Bib) on p988 lists the book as "The British Colonies, Division VII and printing date 1851, but he probably took the date from Vol 1. Frontis of Sir Ralph Abercromby, 1734-1801, hero of Aboukir Bay 1801; with tissue guard; 208pp with tables; 5 double page col maps with vignettes, all unfoxed and very frame-able : Africa; Cape Colony; Natal and Kaffraria; Western Africa; Islands of the Atlantic, with lovely engravings of landscapes by J Rankin (and others). Better than new. Richly illustrated in b&w, monochrome and colour thru'out text.

Cape Town.: Solomon, Saul,, 1886. MISSING: frontis of Cape Town, Map of Cape Colony, 1/4 portion of the Panorama of Port Elizabeth, and "Section of De Beer's Mine". New front fep, new half title and title p. Interesting names of prev owners esp " H Sutton, Dale College, King Wms Town, May 1891"; ( W H R S has signed obsessively on the versos of many illustrations but any or all signatures can be removed on request. He was apparently connected with/ ran the Sutton Collegiate School in C T before moving to KWT). Rear cover rubbed; corners and all edges worn, now repaired; spine is red leather restored at head and tail; title on spine has been re-worked in gold - now looks good on the shelf. Some loose quires have been re-attached; all pages yellowed. . Johannesburg: Kairos Theologians, 1985. This is a photocopy of a pamphlet with a fair amount of high-lighting and underlining. Apart from the historical interest, the value lies in the fact that it is preserved in a lovely binding with gilt titles on the front and printed titles on the spine. 29pp incl a list of signatories.. The slip case is sun faded and has 5 small chips on front - the portrait on the rear is Fine; only front edges faded from tan to green - as are the spines of the dust jackets but this is very common. The books themselves are perfect. Please expect extra postage overseas.
