Galen (born 129 CE, died c. 216) was a Greek physician, writer, and philosopher who exercised a dominant influence on medical theory and practice in Europe from the Middle Ages until the mid-17th century.

An ancient Roman poet, Publius Verilius Maro (70BC-19BC) or Virgil, was active during the Augustan period. Book II contains selections from the Aeniead, one of his most famous and celebrated of his works.
