New York: Philosophical Library, 1968. Hardcover. Unpaginated preliminaries, 119p., first American publication and perhaps the first edition in book form; the essays here were composed during the second world war, issued in pamphlet format, and are generically "philosophy". Hardbound in black cloth boards gilt and enclosed in the dust jacket. Top edge of textblock is tinted green, a nice touch. Aside from light handling wear, quite a good copy: sound, clean and unmarked.

New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1974. Hardcover. 218p., first American edition, nicely hardbound in orange-papered boards with brown cloth backstrip lettered gilt, and enclosed in the dust jacket. Quite sound and entirely clean and unmarked. Moravia traveled over much of Africa, appreciating the people, making five different trips. He deplores the signs of neo-colonialism that he encountered.

Boston: An Atlantic Monthly Press Book / Little, Brown and Company, 1967. Hardcover. 326p., second impression of the hardbound issue, blue cloth boards titled gilt and enclosed in the dust jacket. Casing is a little "handled", we may suppose a reader set aside the dust jacket while reading. The dust jacket is rubbed (mildly affecting BR's cover portrait), a little edgeworn, and the spine panel is sunned to near-illegibility. A good to very good copy: generally sound, clean and unmarked.

London: Methuen & Co. Ltd, 1968. Hardcover. 160p., later printing of the 1967 first issue, hardbound in dove-grey papered boards spine-titled in red and gilt and enclosed in its plain printed dust jacket. Beyond faint touches of dust-soil and edgewear to dust jacket, an as-new copy: perfectly sound and bright, clean and unmarked.

London: George Allen & Unwin, 1956. Hardcover. xi, 382p., reprint of the 1956 first issue, hardbound in openweave sea-green cloth boards and bright green dust jacket titled white. Corner-tips are lightly bumped, touches of edgewear to dust jacket, an awfully nice copy: generally perfectly sound, and absolutely clean and unmarked.

New York: The Hidden Press, 1934. Paperback. 103p., 5.25x8 inch wraps; spine titling handwritten, slight stain on spine, covers toned, minor wear on spine ends, small perforation on half-title page corner, some minor foxing on last pages, otherwise very good.

The author praises nineteenth century painters and attacks 20th century movements such as abstract expressionism, especially the New York school.

Reprints of essays by major English literary critics and professors of the 20th century: Wimsatt was important in the articulation of the New Criticism; Miles pioneered quantitative methods and computational methods in the humanities; and Perrine was a major anthologizer and compiler of influential textbooks for the study of English.

San Francisco: Asian Pacific American Community Fund, 1996. Staplebound. 47p., staplebound pamphlet, 8.5x11 inches. Entries include original essays, poems, and artwork produced by Asian-American youth hailing from the nine Bay Area counties who reflect on family and multicultural identities.

Cedar Park, TX: 21st Century Logic, 1992. Pamphlet. [2]p., 8.5x11 inches; two page essay on Holocaust denier Bradley Smith, adapted by "My Response" #57 pg. 11-12; slightly edgeworn and handled, else very good.

Budapest: Generalart Studio Gallery, 1987. Paperback. [76]p., illustrations, wraps. 9.25 x 6.5 in. Catalogue of an exhibition, funded in part by the Soros Foundation (later the Open Society Foundation), held at the Budapest hall of art featuring three "young men around thirty, characteristic figures of the Hungarian art scene of the Eighties." Illustrations of prints, paintings, sculpture, and performance, with texts interspersed. Catalog compiled by Marianna Mayer.

Paris: Galerie Allen, 2015. poster. 4 posters. Variable sizes, all folded to 8.25 x 6 in. Invitations to exhibitions at Galerie Allen in Paris that fold out into posters, all with accompanying texts. The exhibitions are: "Turns. The possibilities of performance" (2013); "Colin Snapp. IRND" (2014); "Ben Quilty. Alien" (2014); and "Linus Bill + Adrien Horni. Gemälde" (2015). All texts in French and English, except for the 2015 exhibition.

Presentation card tipped in on first leaf: "Nous vous embrassons, Daniela Michel." Proofreader's marks and editorial marginalia scattered throughout. Essay on the geometrical abstract art of Michel Jouët. The former owner of this work has indicated numerous places to make corrections. WorldCat reports only two U.S. locations (July 2023).

Paris: Editions de la Nouvelle Revue Française, 1924. Paperback. 102, [6]pp., portrait, wraps. 7.5 x 5.25 in. 37/1,150. Covers sunned, but otherwise very good. Essays by the French businessman, poet, novelist, and inventor.

Chicago: George Matthew Adams, 1911. Hardcover. 190, [2]pp., boards. 8.25 x 5.5 in. Wanting frontispiece. Inscribed on front flyleaf: "Alice G. Brown ... from Nana Christmas 1931." Bound in blue-gray cloth over boards, block-stamped on front cover in black and white, with a portrait of a lady. Cover designed by Gustave Baumann. Spine soiled and a little faded, but front cover design bright and sharp. Scarce volume collecting articles originally published as part of a nationally syndicated advice/etiquette/musings column for women. An early cover design by Baumann, who spent most of his career as a painter and printmaker in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

New York: [publisher not identified], 1961. Handbill. 8.5 x 5.75 inch brochure, covers soiled. The New York painter offers an absurdist rant against consumer society ("As yet, our advertising gentlemen have not come up with a deodorant that will produce a stenchless humanity"). Anton (b. 1905) was a teacher in the WPA-era Federal Art Project.

Buenos Aires: Ediciones Procyon, 1959. Paperback. 219, [5]pp., illustration (author portrait), wraps. First Edition. Foxing on front cover, flyleaves, and fore-edge. Wrapper is starting to separate from the spine. Text in Spanish. First edition of this collection of five essays by the leftist poet, essayist, and literary critic on the role of intellectuals, abstract painting, and the novel in Latin America. Born in Cuba, Marinello lived and worked in exile in Mexico City. He returned to Cuba and led the Popular Socialist Party, but was arrested by Batista. After the revolution, Marinello served as rector of the University of Havana.

Culiacán, Sinaloa [Mexico]: Ediciones Culturales del Gobierno del Estado, 1959. Paperback. 84p., illustrations, wraps. Coat-of-arms of the state Sinaloa in color; portrait of Carranza. Text in Spanish. Essays honoring Venustiano Carranza as a hero of the Mexican revolution. Commissioned and published by the state of Sinaloa as part of the nationwide commemoration of Carranza marking the centennial of his birth.

Atlanta: J&L Books, 2010. Paperback. 144, [14]pp., illustrations, wraps. An art project by a student at Rhode Island School of Design to photograph people incarcerated at Lansing Prison in Kansas. Major sections include a series of portraits around a program that pairs the incarcerated with dogs scheduled for euthanasia and the escape attempt of one of the subjects of that series. Barnett-Winsby provides photocopies of correspondence and art of the escapee, and photographs his recreation of the escape: "I was a tourist visiting some off-beat attraction on an unmarked path" (p.111).

Tucson, AZ: Mettler Studios, 1966. Staplebound. [22] pages, illustrations, wraps. 11 x 8.5 in. Publisher's ink stamp on inside front cover. Reprints of articles first published in a variety of art criticism and dance journals, 1942 to 1966. With an introduction especially written for this volume on the primacy of movement, "The Art of Body Movement." Articles discuss rhythm, business, and improvisation. Mettler, an American, studied dance at the Mary Wigman School in Dresden in the early 1930s; she returned to the United States and became a dance teacher.
