Dust jacket is plain paper and shows a little wear around the edges, and is price-clipped. Cover repeats the art of the dust jacket on paper-covered boards. Spine skewed a bit. Pages are clean, tight and lack illustrations. Inscription dated 1963 inside the front cover. The story is "slightly abridged for the modern reader". A rare version of this classic story.

We have here a 12-volume set of the complete works of Henrik Ibsen, translated into English, published in 1908. All show very little wear other than being quite sun-faded over the spines. The leather covers are still smooth and intact, with a lovely oxblood shade and a bright gilt shield with the title information. The spines feel more like suede but the gilt print is still clear. The pages are clean, tight and intact, with no significant age-related yellowing. The bindings are stitched with the covered glued on. There is some splitting of the glue near the front of eight of the twelve books, as often happens with these turn of the century bindings, but nothing is coming loose (see photo #10). A pocket-sized book, part of a larger series by Collins' Clear-Type Press (Collins Illustrated Pocket Classics). Illustrated. The Compleat Angler was originally published in 1653 and underwent a number of revisions over the centuries. Presented as a discussion of the virtues of fishing between the fisher Piscator, the hunter Venator and the falconer Auceps. What was once 12 chapters has grown to 32 chapters over two parts. Cover of oxblood leather with gilt on the spine. The spine has some damage at the extremities. The leather is also well worn at the corners. The pages are clean, tight and unmarked. The bookseller's sticker on the rear endpaper tells us it was originally sold at the Skylark Bookstore in Washington, D. C. No date is given within the book, but my research indicated that this was published in the 1920s.

Although it says in the title that the series is twelve volumes, there is also an index, giving a total of thirteen volumes. The covers are deep red fabric covered boards with leather over the spine. The wear is almost all in that leather area where there has been damage at the top, and/or bottom of some of the spines (some can be seen in the photos). Otherwise, there is little damage. Pages are clean, tight and unmarked, with no yellowing. The top edges of the pages are gilted as are the print and decorations on the spines. Each book has a color frontspiece and other scattered illustrations as well. The original owner inserted various clippings and pictures into the books, which I have chosen to leave for their historical value. A few of them are shown in the final four photos. The covers are paper and leather with lots of wear. Leather over spine shows some wear but remains intact, while the leather over the corners is worn through in three of four. Decorative endpapers. Page ends are decorated but darkened to be almost indistinguishable. Many illustrations in the form of etchings of actors in their Shakespearian roles. Pages are heavily spotted, are unmarked and seem to be tight and intact. This is the first of three volumes in a set and covers Shakespeare's comedies. Also contains a brief biography of the playwright, written by Charles Knight. THis sturdy book will ship at over four pounds. Excess shipping costs are included in the list price.

Some minor wear. Spine cocked about 15º, with mild creasing. Cover soiled, but not creased, with mild wear at the corners and one small scraped area on the back, visible in photo #2. Book shows little wear, other than a binding split after the title page (not an unusual occurence in books of this age). No corresponding split in the rear. Light blue textured covers with dark blue stamped print on the front and spine. Decorative endpapers with the owner's name on the front endpaper. The dust jacket shows wear at the corners and edges and a scattering of tears of 1 cm or less. Color frontispiece. The only date in the book is the original copyright. Grosset and Dunlap are not known for publishing first editions and did not like giving the actual date of publication. This volume is probably from the 1940s or 50s. This is one of a number of Stratton-Porter books I have recently acquired. All will soon be listed online. This one is fairly rare.

Some minor wear. The lower right front corner is creased and the spine has a few shallow creases. There is a tiny stain at the lower corner page ends, impacting about 40 pages, but coming nowhere near the text. Outside of that, the pages are clean, tight and intact. A Dean at the University of Chicago travels with his wife behind the Iron Curtain where is mother-in-law is dying. While tolerating the Romanian winter, the Dean considers the political realities of both east and west.

Some minor wear. A crease on the front cover paralleling the spine, a little writing on the back cover. Pages clean and tight, but a bit yellowed with age. First published in 1957, this is Agee's last novel.

Compact volume with deep red cloth cover. Some wear, especially at the ends of the spine. Pages are clean, tight and unmarked. Original owner's name inside front cover. No publishing date listed, internet research suggests this volume is from the early 1920s. Originally published in 1840.

Shows some wear. Contains the full two volumes of de Tocqueville's study of American Democracy from the mid-19th century. One has to wonder what he would say about our democracy today.

Covers show little wear, spine is square and pages are clean, tight and unmarked. Page edges are dyed red all around. The spine does have a strip of tape running the length, in an effort to keep the spine together. It didn't fully work. When I received the book, a group of pages were loose and the spine was trying to peel off. With careful use of book glue, I have restored this as well as I could, so all the pages are nice and tight, and the spine is no longer trying to get away. Repaired or not, this is a rather rare book.

Contains eight complete plays (Prometheus Bound, Oedipus the King, Hippolytus, King Lear, Ghosts, Miss Julie, On Baile's Strand, and Desire Under the Elms), plus six essays on tragedies (by Aristotle, Hume, Emerson, Tillyard, Richards, and Krutch).

A two-violume set, with ten essays in each volume. Cover has marbled paper and leather at the corners and the spine. Most of the wear is to the leather, which is now well over 100 years old. Pictured is a split in the leather along the spine hinge at the top rear of Volume I. A similar split has formed along the lower front hinge of Volume II. The pages appear to be clean, tight and unmarked. The cover and the decorative endpapers (see photos) indicate that this was likely as deluxe reprint, with no date, probably from the early 20th century. This set will ship at over two pounds. Little wear. One shallow spine crease. Pages are tight and bright, with a scattering of highlighting and margin notes. Originally published in 1778, and popular ever since. This book carries a date of 1965, but is the 8th printing and has an ISBN, so obviously was printed somewhat later than that.
