Binding is a trifle sunned at the spine with traces of silverfishing; contemporary owner name on the front and rear free endpapers with scattered pencil notations on the rear endpapers; a reasonably nice copy of an uncommon title. Of it, Krick writes, "The largest part of his book, and its most important material, concerns Massey's political experiences in post-war Virginia. The parson provides intelligent commentary, liberally sprinkled with lengthy original documents, concerning his leadership in the Readjustor movement, his term as lieutenant governor, and his intimate associations with the state's leading men" Neale Books 317.

1791. 9" x 7.5." Writing on recto and verso. Near fine. A very nice example of an ALS by General Anthony Wayne. Wayne was an instrumental part of the Continental Army during the American Revolution, entering the fray as a colonel and at the conclusion of war, a major general. It is difficult to overstate Wayne's contribution to the American cause. After the war he served two years in Pennsylvania General Assembly and was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention. In 1791 he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia, serving in that role until his death in 1796. Interestingly, this letter addressing a financial matter was written the day he took his seat in Congress. One might imagine he was using his new position to put some additional authority behind his request. This letter appears to be addressed to Congressman Joseph Clay. A bright copy but for a bit of light rubbing to the backstrip and foxing to the top edge; spine a bit sunken; only minor shelf-rubbing to the dust jacket; price intact on the front flap. The first of two volumes on the Army of Tennessee. Of the entire work, Eicher writes that they "form a magnificently successful history of the Confederacy's greatest western army and belong in every Civil War collection" Eicher 1020.

One of 15 copies (full edition was 250) bound in quarter calf with cloth over boards and marbled endpapers; this copy is out of series. A well printed facsimile issued by Bessenberg Editions in "a series of facsimile editions of books treating of the history of the settlement and development of the Great Lakes Region of the United States." This present title is the second in the series. No printing date is given in the colophon, but it is circa 2012. A bright, fresh copy of the biography of the Revolutionary War commander. Removed from nonce volume, spine is lacking; original wrappers are present but worn with edge-chipping and loss to the top corner of the front wrapper; modern stitching. First issued in London (Trubner & Co., 1865), this is a thorough account of the Peninsula campaign, written from the Union perspective. One of the Loyal Publication Society's pamphlets describing events of the war. Dornbusch III, 1563; Sabin 21846.

Octavo. 31, [1 (advert)]; 8 pp. Removed from nonce volume, and stitched into early plain wrappers; contents printed in black in two columns. Wrappers are worn with "Wade, B. F." in pencil at the top corner; additionally, previous owner name, "Rev. Dr. H. Cox / 4.14.----1863" in the center of the front wrapper. The title page of the first tract has a penciled "2" at the top corner and one instance of crayon writing in margin of the same page; additionally, on instance of crayon underlining on the title page of Tract No. 3 as well as a penciled "3" at the top corner. Some toning to the first and last leaf from the wrappers. In addition to the detailed movements contained in the reports there are also reprinted correspondence and executive and general orders. This copy inscribed to Thomas Pinckney by another Pinckney the year of publication. His name and a note in pencil on the front pastedown; frequent short marginal notes and underlined passages in pencil. The Hunton family was originally from Fauquier County and while Hunton IV notes that the book is lacking, "it has brought back memories of my happy boyhood summers in Warrenton and surrounding Fauquier." Front wrappers soiled with significant chipping to the edges; significant dampstaining to the covers and with a prominent tideline throughout the textblock. An uncommon title, particularly in publisher's wrappers. Though without indication in the text, this copy is from the library of Eppa Hunton IV and has significant marginalia and underlining throughout in what is almost certain his hand. Hunton IV was the grandson of Confederate General and U.S. Senator, Eppa Hunton. Haynes 16906; Sabin 81703.
