One 11 x 8 inch piece of paper folded in thirds, printed on both sides, decorated at the top of the front side with a monotone vignette drawing of a woman holding flowers against a background of a Mission and rolling hills.

1926 original, very good condition. A list of Los Angeles Hotels and addresses on the reverse, with a list of other Southern California hotels in Corona, Hollywood, Long Beach, Mount Lowe, Pasadena, Riverside, San Diego, San Jacinto, Santa Monica, Santa Maria, and Santa Ana. Rates shown are for one person or two, with or without bath.

Octavo (8 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches) Los Angeles: Times-Mirror Printing and Binding House, 1888. 278 pages listing 1700 tracts alphabetically. Rebacked quarter cloth with title in gilt on spine, contemporary original orange printed paper over boards, with old printed advertisements for local businesses framing the title and author, centered, on the upper cover; other ads on back cover, and among the text.

Very good condition (oval stamp of "Howell and Palm Publishers" on South Spring Street in upper right corner of title page, not affecting contents, penciled name of previous owner and date 1935 at top of title page).

Small Quarto (10 x 7 inches) Pasadena, California, R. W. C. Farnsworth, 1883 [1]-vi, [7]-132 pages with engraved and half-tone photo illustrations, map of Pasadena in text.

"First separate directory of Pasadena; first history of the area in particular, and one of the best promotional works of its time for the Los Angeles region." - Quebedeaux: "Prime Sources of California and Nevada Local History."

Contributors include Dr. J. P. Widney, Abbot Kinney, and John Muir among other notable early Southern California personalities.

Original green cloth boards (one of several colored cloth covers known to be used for this book, blue and red being most common). Decorative gilt embossed title centered on front cover, repeated in blind on the back cover, with "Pasadena," "San Gabriel," "La Cañada," and "Sierra Madre" printed on individual decorative gilt backgrounds diagonally in the corners of the front cover.

Folio (13 3/4 X 10 1/4 inches) Detroit, Michigan: Detroit Free Press Printing Co., (circa 1913-1914) promotional advertisement of 8 unnumbered stapled pages, illustrated with full page black and white halftone photo stills of scenes from the play to be performed at Hamburger's Majestic Theatre "Two Weeks Commencing Monday, June 2, Regular Matinees." Title in large letters, cover printed in two colors, original wrappers, good condition (minor bending and curling to edges and margins - not affecting contents).

The Majestic was located at 845 South Broadway. It was built in 1913, and knocked down in the early 1930s. Savage was a theatrical manager. His play "Everywoman" was performed in Los Angeles shortly after the Majestic opened.

Small quarto (11 x 8 1/4 inches) Published in the Interest of the Firemen's Relief Fund, December 1900. 116 pages of half tone black and white photos of early Los Angeles, portraits, and advertisements for Los Angeles businesses of the period.

Descriptive text includes a short history of the Los Angeles Fire Department: "In May, 1875, Engine Company No. 2 was organized."

Good condition: original red cloth binding, showing mild age toning, title on front cover, floral patterned end papers.

Many photos of early Los Angeles fire stations, with horse drawn equipment.

Portraits include: the mayor, the Fire Commissioners back to 1871, Chiefs, Captains, Lieutenants, Engine Drivers, Engineers, Hosemen, and Ladder men.

Advertisements include breweries, hardware supplies, saloons, blacksmiths, and stables among many others.

32 mo. (4 3/4 x 3 1/4 inches) Los Angeles: Ward Ritchie Press, Printed for Members of the Roxburghe Club and the Zamorano Club September 1964. 26 pages of historical text [plus 16 pages printed on yellow paper purportedly reproducing, in facsimile, a "Souvenir Sporting Guide" (a guide to the prositutes and madames) for gentlemen visitors to the Fiesta de Los Angeles in 1897, illustrated with two vintage black and white half-tone photos, dust jacket.

Very good condition, title in gilt on hardcover cloth spine. Partial dedication reads: "Presented by Robert J. Woods, W. W. Robinson, Everett G. Hager, John H. Urabec and The Ward Ritchie Press Los Angeles."

Octavo (9 x 4 inches) Original, promotional staplebound brochure printed on stiff paper, with embossed gilt monogram "A" on upper left corner of front cover, folded once to form 12 unnumbered pages, illustrated with drawings and black and white halftone photos, map of Southern California and vicinity with local attractions in relation to the hotel's location.

Evocative of the early 1920s Hollywood: Art Nouveau style sepia drawings on the cover, and at lower margin on every page, projecting the elegance of the hotel; of guests enjoying fine dining, dancing, and golf, while socializing in furs and formal wear.

Very good condition (discreet Peck Judah rubber stamp on front cover, not affecting contents).

The hotel was on Wilshire Boulevard, and the location of the famous Coconut Grove nightclub. Both hotel and nightclub are gone, replaced by a high school.

Volume 3, Number 11. 40 page stapled booklet in wrappers, with descriptive text, illustrated with half tone black and white captioned photos, numerous local advertisements; decorative cover art of a bucolic Southern California scene. A monthly guide, giving suggestions for the visitor, and promoting the "Official Canadian Picnic and Reunion" in Long Beach.

Small octavo (8 X 5 5/8 inches) Pasadena, California: Val Trefz Press, 1942. First Edition. 88 pages, drawings by James Hawkins, inscribed by the author "To my friend Harry Lichtig a thorough going Angelino." Lichtig was a Hollywood agent. Hardcover, cloth, very good condition.

An irreverent collection of published observations about the city from 1769 to the publication of this book. The author quotes newspapers, magazines, diaries, books, and literature in order to gather this interesting material.
